Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé inks multi-year deal with HFX Wanderers

All roads lead to Halifax, or at least in the case of midfielder Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé.

The Wanderers Notebook confirmed the 28-year old Canadian is returning to the Halifax Wanderers 14 months after his first stint with the club. Although this publication was not able to confirm the precise details of the contract, sources stated Gagnon-Laparé signed a multi-year deal through 2025.

Gagnon-Laparé joins the Wanderers after he and York United mutually agreed to terminate his contract following the conclusion of the 2023 CPL season. As previously reported, this decision wasn't sprung on the club but was the culmination of discussions throughout the off-season. He played 23 matches for York in all competitions.

Gagnon-Laparé's return may be a surprise to some but sources explained his cordial split from the Wanderers last off-season left the door open for a potential return in the future.

And the future — given Halifax's meteoric rise and hunger for the club's first trophy — is now.

Known for his steadying presence and tenacious defending, Gagnon-Laparé is the latest addition to an already formidable but young Wanderers squad. He immediately becomes one of the more veteran players and it is expected he will be relied upon as a leader thanks to his professional experiences in the USL, MLS and Canadian Men's National Team.

He previously played 47 matches across all competitions for the Wanderers.

The Wanderers will begin announcing (and confirming) roster news on Jan. 31.
