Sources: Atlético Ottawa ink Spanish defender Jesús del Amo

Atlético Ottawa is bolstering their defence as they're set to announce the signing of 25-year old Spanish defender Jesús del Amo Castellano later this week, sources briefed on negotiations told The Wanderers Notebook. Sources noted the move fits within the club's remaining cap space.
The Pulianias-born del Amo is set to join Atlético Ottawa after spending last season in Spain's fourth division with Real Avilés Industrial CF. A natural centre-back, del Amo played for Granada CF, FC Barcelona and Villareal CF's youth teams. He then suited up for his first professional matches with CD Roda in 2018 before jumping to several other clubs between Spain's third and fourth divisions. Del Amo also spent time in Greece.
Del Amo joins an Atlético Ottawa squad that is rounding into form after a rough patch that saw them drop three matches in a row for the first time this season. However, following an impressive 3-0 showing at Starlight Stadium, Atlético Ottawa are once again leading the table with 32 points.
Although a centre-back, del Amo has been deployed as a left-back several times in his career, giving head coach Carlos Gonzalez another full-back option down the stretch. The club previously mutually terminated left-back Aboubakary Sacko's contract in July.
