Sources: Marco Bustos signs with Pacific FC

After two seasons spent in Sweden’s top flight, Canadian attacker Marco Bustos is set for a return to Vancouver Island with Pacific FC, sources told The Wanderers Notebook on Monday.

Bustos, 28, is no stranger to the CPL, having previously played a starring role for the Tridents over the course of three seasons, including their championship run in 2021. The Winnpieg-native amassed 23 goals and 20 assists in the CPL through 90 appearances split between Pacific and his hometown Valour FC. He also featured for the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS, in addition to time spent in the United States and Mexico.

Following the expiration of his contract with Pacific following the 2022 season, Bustos was courted by several European clubs and opted to sign with Allsvenskan side IFK Värnamo. He made over 40 appearances in Sweden but with a lack of starts and playing time, in conjunction with his contract expiring at the end of 2024, Bustos decided to come back to Canada. Sources said Bustos has signed a multi-year contract with the Tridents.

OneSoccer's Oliver Platt reported last week Bustos was set to make a return to the CPL.

The move has yet to be confirmed by Pacific.
