Sources: Wanderers set to complete transfer of forward Massimo Ferrin to York United

Forward Massimo Ferrin is heading home, sources told The Wanderers Notebook on Monday, as the Halifax Wanderers are set to transfer the 26-year old to York United FC. Rumours of a potential move for the Ontario-native were first reported by John Jacques of The Northern Tribune.

The specifics of the deal, be it a transfer fee or Ferrin's new contract, are unknown at this time.

Ferrin joined the Wanderers from League1 Ontario powerhouse Vaughan Azzurri, having earned a Golden Boot and league MVP nods in 2022. He proceeded to quickly establish himself for Halifax, recording eight goals and three assists in his first professional campaign despite sustaining multiple injuries. Ferrin added a further eight goal contributions in 2024.

York United had previously been interested in Ferrin's services, having pursued him following the end of the 2022 CPL season. However, with head coach Patrice Gheisar joining the Wanderers from Vaughan Azzurri, Ferrin opted to sign for his former coach's new club.

Now, the skilled attacker is heading home with 55 professional appearances under his belt; Ferrin joins a rebuilding York United squad following key departures in the form of Mo Babouli and Brian Wright. However, additions like Riley Ferrazzo, Luke Singh, Gabriel Bitar and now Ferrin have ushered in a new era as Mauro Eustáquio looks to make his mark as a head coach in the league.

The Wanderers were contacted but, as per their policy, don't comment on transfer rumours.
