Sources: Winger Kris Twardek to join Valour FC

Winger Kris Twardek is set to join Valour FC, sources told The Wanderers Notebook on Thursday.

Twardek, 27, originally signed a two-year contract with Atlético Ottawa last winter, returning home to play in North America for the first time in his football career. Previously, the rugged winger had played throughout Europe, most recently with 11-time Irish champions Bohemian FC.

He made his debut for Atlético Ottawa at TD Place on April 13, scoring a memorable goal in front of friends and family. However, despite the club's hot start, Atlético Ottawa slumped in the second half of the season, with Twardek himself battling injury. He ended the year with 1,574 minutes spread across 23 league appearances.

It's been an off-season of change in the nation's capital as players like Ruben del Campo, Ollie Bassett, Rayane Yesli and Matteo de Brienne have left. Still, the roster boasts talent like Manny Aparicio, Ballou Tabla and Amer Didic as Atlético Ottawa looks to build on a 2024 campaign which saw them finish third on the table.

Sources said Twardek's move to Manitoba is a free transfer with future considerations.

With Valour, Twardek will join a squad looking to make the post-season for the first time in club history. They were eliminated from contention in the last regular season match of 2024, marking the second year in a row where they ended up with the Wooden Spoon.

The transfer has not been officially confirmed by either club involved.
